Detailed Information about our Family Lessons

When your kiddo wants to join in on the fun!

Lessons provides an outlet for parents to share in music with their young children.  Likewise, they allow students too little for structured lessons to experience the joys of music!

Lessons are 30 minutes in length, shared between an adult and accompanying kiddo(s).

Lessons focus the majority of the lesson content towards the adult student, while the tagalong shakes an egg, taps a drum, tinkers on the piano, or just sings and dances!

Lessons provide instrument-based learning for families to build their love of music together!

Lessons are for adults of any age and kiddos ages 7 and under.

Once Tagalong students develop sufficient interest and attention span, they can switch to Solo Lessons or Tandem Lessons.

Learn with a friend or family member!

Tandem Lessons allow two students of varying ages, instruments, and abilities to collaborate and learn alongside each other.

Tandem Lessons are 60 minutes in length, shared between the student duo.

We’ve seen Tandem Lesson duos between siblings, friends, spouses, parent and child (even parents and grown children!), and our favorite, two Boise Music Lesson students who met in our studio and decided to share their time and learn together.

Tandem Lessons are not a static arrangement; they are tailored to suit the interests and abilities of each duo, and grow and change as the dynamic evolves.

Tandem Lessons can alternate between duo collaboration and individual instruction observation, or be side-by-side learning from start to finish.  They can focus on improvisation, chamber music, folk songs, and much, much more!

Who will be your Tandem Lesson buddy?

Tandem Lessons are recommended for ages 8 and on through adulthood.  For kiddos a bit younger, check out Tagalong Lessons.

When your whole crew wants to play together!

Family Truckster Lessons allow three or more students of varying ages, instruments, and abilities to collaborate and learn alongside each other.

Truckster Lessons are 60 minutes in length, shared between the students.

Most Family Truckster Lessons have been comprised of, well, families.  However, we’ve seen friends share time, too!

Truckster Lessons are not a static arrangement; they are tailored to suit the interests and abilities of each group, and grow and change as the dynamic evolves.

Family Truckster Lessons can alternate between group collaboration and individual instruction observation, or be side-by-side learning from start to finish.  We can accommodate groups of 3 to 5 people, of all ages and abilities.  Truckster groups tend to progress most quickly when participants select similar instruments (say, violin and mandolin or guitar and ukulele), but we can squeeze percussion in about anywhere!

Do you have a family member who wants to join your Truckster group but doesn’t play one of our instruments of emphasis?  Not a problem!  These musicians are welcome to sign up and participate in rhythm exercises, piano and percussion modules, open mic performance time, and group jam sessions.  Stringed instruments like cello, bass, dulcimer, etc. are the easiest to add into the mix, but hit us up to see if your instrument would be a good fit.
